Golden Embryo
I retired in the rank of a colonel from the army, and have inherited considerable property through my late wife. We had no issues. I stay alone in my hometown. I’ve a goal in mind about which you’ll learn in due course. Jeevan who had worked in the army for a while under my command, also lives in the same town as me. He was very loyal to me, and once in a while comes to see me or seek my advice. He has remained a bachelor, as he had been jilted in love by a woman living in the same town.
That day, Jeevan came to me seeking advise about whether to help a certain Kyin who had somehow contacted him. Kyin was a young man - a tribal from the North East. He had joined extremist elements, and had received training in arms and tactics in a guerilla camp. But he had fled from the camp, as he had been ill-treated, and was now on the run from both the militants and the security forces. He had no means to support himself, and nowhere to hide, and was desperate.
I offered Kyin a job cooking and keeping house for me, and he gladly accepted. I studied him for weeks, and found him obedient and reliable. I now got together with Jeevan and Kyin, and revealed to them details of Operation Golden Embryo which I had conceived. It would use the huge cache of RDX which Jeevan had told me lay hidden, and could be accessed by him. The 2 men were very enthusiastic about joining me in the operation. Each had a motive: Jeevan wanted to prove to the woman who had jilted him, that he was quite courageous and was capable of spectacular action. Kyin was a restless type and wanted adventure. I bought an old house in a lonely area where we planned to operate, and moved there. We recruited labour, and started renovating the house, but at a very slow pace. Simultaneously we proceeded with tunneling as part of Operation Golden Embryo. Several weeks passed, and I said to Jeevan “You can now go with Kyin and bring the RDX. Make as many trips as necessary so that we’ve enough of the stuff.”
After the explosive material was brought, I got Jeevan and Kyin to plant them at specific points underground. They now found that the RDX could be detonated only if the cell-phone signals were sent from within the tunnel. Kyin who was a dare-devil, agreed to do it as I had offered him a substantial reward. I set midnight for setting off the explosions, as the target area above would be largely free of people at that hour. Kyin gave the command, when the earth shook, and the aged Taj Mahal, built using primitive construction material, collapsed. In the ruins, the remains of a Hindu temple were exposed. The temple’s priceless golden idol which had been buried there for preservation, now came into public view.
Kyin was killed inside the tunnel we had dug to place the RDX under the monument. Jeevan vanished without a trace. He surely must have had the satisfaction that he would gain a kind of immortality for his part in having destroyed one of the wonders of the world: He would be remembered like Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin. I will be questioned, and will give the names of my accomplices. I suffer from cancer, and expect to die very soon. Anyway I’ve the satisfaction that my goal has been achieved: I had unearthed the temple ruins, proving the Taj was built where a Hindu temple had been demolished.

Sometime ago, the World’s Biggest Liar was crowned in a competition. Contestants had 5 minutes to narrate their accounts. If I had participated, I would have presented GOLDEN EMBRYO! Incredulous readers may remind themselves this is April 1st!
